STEFANO MATTOZZI

STEFANO MATTOZZI
I work with voice, live electronics, found objects and slow body practice.
My work comes from listening and from making.
I move between performance, installation and collective exercises, using butoh-derived micro-movements, simple ritual and recycled materials to build situations of attention.
Places between use and neglect, between speech and silence : I compose from dirt and discarded matter.
Broken speakers, metal fragments, textiles, field recordings and sonic and visual material become instruments and archives.
This is political: reuse questions tech convenience and the loss of embodied language.
I often bring traces of my city — Napoli — into other contexts.
That migration of sound and habit is part of the ecology I study.
Experimentation is method: small tests, failed attempts and accidental discoveries
shape what remains.
I work with communities through workshops and listening walks.
Participants help build the work and the handover: toolkits, repair notes and simple scores for continued practice.
My practice asks for care, not spectacle.
Whether it be a performance, a music piece or an installation,It aims to leave a living mark
An installation or ritual that can be tended and reactivated by people who live there.

"A deep dive into the sound, in his most unattached way, chaos and musicality coexisting." - Stefano Mattozzi
Audiovisual work created at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre for the event “Refraction Of The Fragile Surface” related to impressionism.
